There is no better place to while away a spring day...

Every season is special in Cornwall, and each time of year has a unique way of warming the heart. Springtime however is many people’s favourite, and with good reason.

By April, the numerous trees and plants simply cannot wait any longer to burst open their buds and put on a show for all to see. Hotel Meudon is set in its own subtropical valley, and there is no better place to while away a spring day, however there are some glorious, world beating gardens just a walk or short drive away that we cannot recommend highly enough for a visit, especially at this time of year.

Trebah Gardens is under 2 miles away and is a must-see for anyone with even a passing interest in trees, plants and flowers (or jungles..!). With 100-year-old rhododendrons, magnolias and camellias and, in summer, giant Gunnera and a network of winding trails that make their way down to a secluded beach, Trebah could be the big sister of the gardens at Hotel Meudon!

Created by the Fox family in the 1800s, the beautiful National Trust owned ‘Glendurgan Gardens’ is also close by and is another renowned and extremely popular stop-off for visitors looking for inspiring walks and somewhere to let the family explore.

If the ocean and coastline is what you are craving, there is an array of local beaches to choose from. Whether it’s the seclusion and serenity of our very own Bream Cove, just a short walk through the valley gardens away, the delightful Maenporth beach, another secluded cove popular with locals and with a café right on the sand (you can even hire surfboards, standup paddleboards and book beach or SUP yoga lessons from Falmouth Surf School & Watersports here!) or the bustling but stunning, sandy shores of Gyllyngvase, Falmouth’s town beach, overlooked by the impressive Pendennis Castle, there are many options for spending quality time by the sea.

To really get close to the water and experience the Helford River and Frenchman’s Creek firsthand, Koru guided kayak adventures offer relaxing kayak trips exploring the banks and hidden secrets of these stunning waterways. Find out for yourself why the serene waters and secluded beaches of this area inspired Daphne Du Maurier to write the novel ‘Frenchman’s Creek’.

With other attractions such as Gweek Seal Sanctuary, the National Maritime Museum and Flambards theme park in Helston now having re-opened and with Springtime in Falmouth now well underway, this is a great time to book a stay and welcome the arrival of warmer months at ‘Cornwall’s best kept secret’…
