At Hotel Meudon, we believe in celebrating our four-legged friends every day, but this Dog Appreciation Day, we went all out with a garden BBQ and a delightfully fun dog competition. The sun was shining, tails were wagging, and the aroma of sizzling BBQ filled the air as we gathered to honor our canine companions and raise funds for animals in need.
Our gardens came alive with the sound of excited barks and happy chatter as dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds lined up to participate in a 'just for fun' dog show. The event was anything but serious, but that didn't stop our furry contestants from giving it their all in categories like "Waggiest Tail," "Best Biscuit Eater," "Fluffiest Dog," "Hidden Talent," and the coveted "Judges' Favorite."
While our canine contestants were busy showing off their skills, their humans indulged in the delicious BBQ fare, enjoying the relaxed and festive atmosphere. Stalls selling doggie accessories and garden games added to the fun, with all proceeds from the event going to support Falmouth's pet food bank, Pawsitive Pets, and Bob's Dogs charity. We're thrilled to announce that we raised £310 in total, all of which will go towards helping animals in need.
“This is the first time that we’ve run such an event,” says our Front of House Manager, Suzannah Sharkey, “but it was such a hit I think it will have to become an annual fixture. We love having doggie guests and it was a great excuse to open up the gardens, fire up the BBQ, and celebrate our canine companions—all in a good cause.”
We were honored to partner with Nicola Congdon, founder of Pawsitive Pets, who is also a finalist in the BBC Cornwall Make a Difference Awards. “It was great to partner with Nicola and be able to assist in helping her with the brilliant work she does for the local community,” says our General Manager, Abi Picken. “It was a fun-fueled day enjoyed by all who attended. We look forward to working alongside Nicola and Pawsitive Pets in the future.”
The day was a resounding success, filled with laughter, wagging tails, and a shared love for our furry friends. We can’t wait to see what next year's Dog Appreciation Day brings! Keep an eye on our blog for more updates on our upcoming events and how you can get involved in supporting great causes like these.
